I love the Mississippi Delta Blues, and everything associated with it. The heritage, the mystery........and it all started with Robert Johnson. This painting, which was done in acrylic using Lamp Black, Titanium White, and Payne's Gray, is on 18" x 24" canvas. I completed this in October, 2007. I tried to stay as true to the grainy old photo in which I was painting..............

B.B. King, along with his legendary guitar, "Lucille," has always been a favorite of mine. Living so close to Memphis, my wife and I have gone down Beale Street hoping that we catch him at his restaraunt. Unfortunately, no luck yet. This painting was completed in December of 2007, and consists of Mars Black and Titanium White. This painting is a bit larger than "Crossroads" above - it is 24" x 30"................

Everyone across the globe knows of Tupelo, MS, for one reason and one reason only............Elvis Presley. Two of the major draws to Tupelo is the old shotgun-style house built by Vernon Presley that his famous son was born in - and Tupelo Hardware, the store in which a young Elvis purchased his first guitar. Sitting behind Tupelo Hardware, however, is an awesome sight - the Tupelo Courthouse. Going through Tupelo everyday made me numb to superb architecture of the Courthouse. I had never given it any thought, until I walked past it on the morning of the Christmas parade. I took a pic, and I had to lay it down on canvas. This is one of those times I stepped outside of my comfort zone to try something different. Since I was going with a completely different subject matter, I chose to use true color, and I also wanted to try a different technique. I chose pointilism, and I was pretty happy with the results. 24" x 30", acrlic on canvas, completed in January, 2008. Colors used: Cadmium Yellow, Raw Umber, Cadmium Orange, Zinc White, Titanium White, Phthalo Green, Phthalo Blue, ....................

This one seems to be my wife's favorite, so that makes it pretty special to me. Inspired by a photograph, I decided to go back to my monochomatic scheme, using light source as a major factor in making this piece work. While working on this one, I thought back to one of the first songs I ever heard (live) on a piano........thus, titled this one "The Entertainer". Mars Black and Zinc White are the only two colors used. 24" x 30" acrylic on canvas. Completed February, 2008.....................

This is my most recent "musical" piece. I wanted to use a silhouette, and a saxophone was my instrument of choice. I was going to do "the black/white thing I normally do" (as some of my friends call it), but as I was about to start I went for the Yellow Ochre and didn't look back. I added some Burnt Umber as well (each blended with some Mixing White), and I let the musician pop off the canvas by keeping him totally black. Although it is vey simple and only took a few minutes to complete, I have received a nice response to this one. Completed: February, 2008. 24" x 30" acrylic on canvas............
